The Company

Emil Färber Senior founded a livestock business in Villingen, southern Baden, in 1877. Today, the meat wholesaler operates a total of 27 locations in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse, Bavaria, Saxony and Brandenburg. The company Emil Färber sees itself as a regional partner and intermediary between the agricultural producer and the specialized butcher shops in the region. The product range includes the entire range of fresh meat from pork, beef, veal, game, lamb and poultry as well as fish, cheese and international specialties.

The Challenge

Sending the latest news, important customer information, promotional mailings or orders by fax or mail to all 27 branches on a regular basis is time-consuming and costly. So, the aim was to facilitate and reduce costs via fax server software. The chosen solution not only had to improve and accelerate the flow of information, it also had to be integrated into the existing IT structure with a virtual environment, Microsoft Exchange Server as well as being able to integrate Microsoft Outlook.

The Solution

The company Färber uses ixi-UMS unified messaging software virtualized on a VMware server at its locations in Emmendingen and in Freiburg. The ixi-UMS exchange connectors ensure seamless integration into existing Microsoft Exchange environments. The connection to ISDN-based PBXs is implemented via the Remote CAPI of the bintec RT3002 routers equipped with fax modules. The installation of the software in the virtual environment at the two locations ran largely without problems.

"The few minor problems that arose could be solved very quickly by the friendly and competent technical support," says Michael Kerber. In Emmendingen, the employees send about 3000 faxes per week, and approximately 150 faxes from Microsoft Outlook in Freiburg. Microsoft Outlook’s distribution list is used for addressing: Depending on the target group, the employees can create different distribution lists, which are purely fax mailing lists or can additionally contain e-mail addresses. A stored blacklist ensures that no unsolicited faxes are received by the recipient.
