Cost-free Telephony – helpers for Microsoft Office Communicator

ESTOS PhoneTools are software products that increase the ease and convenience in using Microsoft Office Communicator’s telephone functions.

The innovative ‘helpers’ have been developed especially for the Microsoft Office Communicator. The SIP-Communications Client is already available together with Microsoft Live Communications Server 2005 SP1, and which will be included in some of the Microsoft Office 2007 Editions. To illustrate the strength and competence of ESTOS in computer telephony, in relation to Microsoft United Communications technologies and Microsoft Office 2007, ESTOS will release the new version without charge. For the second quarter of 2007 an enhanced version, which will be sold, is being planned. The highlight of this version is a Journal function and easy connection from contact data bases and CRM solutions.

Characteristics of the cost-free ESTOS PhoneTools:

Hotkey-Dialing
Microsoft Communicator Users are now able with Windows programs, e.g. Internet Explorer, to highlight a telephone number and by pressing one key (hotkey) initiate the call. This saves the user the trouble of copying the number. The particular hotkey can be specified by each user.

TAPI Service Provider for outgoing calls
The ‘so-called’ Communicator TAPI Service Provider, a special driver, enables dialing from all Microsoft TAPI compatible programs via the Communicator Client. This way already existing applications can be used as well as the telephone functions of the Office Communicator.

Background:
ESTOS PhoneTools are part of ESTOS solutions for the Microsoft Live Communications Server. ESTOS CallControlGateway and other middleware products are server-based. ESTOS PhoneTools enhances the solution portfolio of the Office Communicator Client. ESTOS PhoneTools benefits the user by reducing the effort required and making it easier to telephone with the Communicator.

The Microsoft Live Communications Server 2005 (LCS) is Microsoft’s strategic platform for Unified Communications and its functions are closely linked to the soon-to-be-released Microsoft Office 2007 product line. The Office Communicator Client is necessary and already available, and unifies telephone and data services (Presence, Chat, Whiteboard, Video) to a convenient user interface for business users.

For these services the LCS provides several interfaces to connect Gateways, as well as for telephony. The management and control of the telephone functions via the Communicator Client is made by Standards SIP und uaCSTA. Most regular telephone systems do not support Standards SIP and uaCSTA. As the first European software producer since early 2006, ESTOS has been providing an inexpensive and easy to implement Gateway to integrate these systems with LCS and Microsoft Office Communicator. This Gateway connects all TAPI able VoIP and Hybride telephone systems, as well as those that don’t support VoIP. ESTOS CallControlGateway manages the necessary Standards SIP and uaCSTA.
